4.0 out of 5 stars A magnificent Lego set... not meant for kids..., January 27, 2011

What you have here is a 1,664 piece marvel of Lego engineering. It never ceases to amaze me as to how well thought out most of Lego's advanced sets are. Sure, there is always room for improvement in some areas. But let's not forget that this "toy" is made up of small, plastic bricks. How amazing is that? I'll break my review down into sections:

General:
Build time: Approx. 6 to 7 hours - It got to be a bit tiresome, but I managed to build the ship on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Keep in mind, I did stop to eat and stretch from time to time. Most people should be able to get this done in probably under 7 hours. I think it took me a bit longer because I didn't separate the pieces well enough, so I spent too much time digging through a bowl of pieces... trying to find that one tiny elusive piece.

Packaging: Packaging is what you'd expect, though I was a bit surprised. There really isn't any rhyme or reason as to why the box is so big. The pieces are all packaged in... Read more

This ship is great. I love the lego pirate theme, and this ship fits right into my collection. The only problem is that it overshadows my other sets when I display them together. I believe it is my favorite lego pirate theme set, I even like it more than my much loved imperial trading post.
This ship is really big. I am surprised lego made a ship of this size, especially for the imperials. I would think a large ship for the pirates would be more popular and sell better, but I am glad that they created this ship instead. It has enough space for 8 cannons below deck! (although it only comes with 4). It is awesome how you can remove the deck to see the cannons below. There are lots of details, such as in the kitchen area below deck, as well as the captain's quarters. The rudder moves (although it is not steered by the wheel), and you can crank up the anchor. If you enjoy the building process, building this ship takes quite a bit of time. You will not snap it together in a... Read more

If you like legos and you like ships, this is a no-brainer. It's very fun to build and very cleverly designed so it's fun to play with. I highly recommend it.
