He really loved that blue truck and built the two models. So for his 10th birthday he was so much set on getting the excavator, that we put some birthday money from different people together and bought it. I told him to wait until the weekend, but he can't think about anything else so he and his 8-yr old brother started themselves: it's now nearly finished. It's an absolutely wonderful machine and better than I expected. It's not only much bigger than the truck, but much more complicated also. As with the previous review, my kids, both the 8-yr old and the 10-yr old are able to put this set together, but mine had some experience with the concept of following the instructions from the easier 8052 set. It should totally please kids within the 12-16 age given on the package, and I would expect until far beyond. It's really pricey, but defenitely worth the money and... Building it was a lot of fun with the countless numbers of gearwheels. It's really alot of fun to see that all of the functions are slowly starting to work as you put the set together. For play value, this set is probably the best set ever. All of the functions work really well, including lifting the boom (which was a problem with the old linear actuators, but this has been totally fixed). This thing is also pretty powerful when driving, especially on a surface where the tracks get decent grip like on a matress or carpet. I tried to "hill climb" with this thing on a bed sheet and by balancing the excavator with the boom it got surprisingly far. I could go on and on but you'll find out how much play value this set has by yourself once you get it. Pros: great power functions fun build very good price (the power functions alone cost about 110,- and on top of that you get over a thousand pieces) fully remote controlled alot of... Dreams come true!, A Kid's Review = Durability: = Fun: = Educational: This review is from: LEGO TECHNIC Motorized Excavator 8043 (Toy) Well, when my younger kid (7) receveid the gift, he got really impressed with a big WOW! Not less the elder kid (10), which turned the constructor guy. After two days and about 24 hours of work and impressive good job, the elder kid could get into the point I realised would be the time I should enter in the game to "finishing" the hard job, although, enjoyable!!! After 4 hours of fixing with few steps back and forth we got all the machine working. All great time! Really amazing! I should advise that the construction steps should be accomplished with care and precision eyes in order the machine works perfect, and the guides were very precise. Although, the constructor should have not a beginner perception of 3D machines representations, the steps flows well and a 10 years kid can complete the job. Technically, I think that the Prismatic actuators (4) should come with some kind of preloaded internal springs in order to better push the weight it should... Read more |
