LEGO Review Creator Set 5891 - Apple Tree House

LEGO Review Creator Set 5891 - Apple Tree House

The Lego Creator range of products is unique in that it comes with instructions to build more than one model. So in the case of this set, there are instructions for three distinct houses; the apple tree house, a townhouse and a summer house. You can only build one house at a time but it allows greater playability for fans that are into building models from instructions. The only downside to the creator sets is that they generally don't come with any minifigures, something that Lego could remedy easily in the future. In this set then main house is known as the Apple Tree house and the instruction book is 70 pages so it is quite a long build. It incorporates a very cute and colourful house and garden setting, with an apple tree, working mail box with letters inside, a satellite dish on the roof, a basketball net and lawnmower, opening front and garage doors, a ladder up to the attic and heaps more.It looks good from all angles and with the addition of a minifigure you have a very attractive home. Its a lot of fine details for such a small model and that is one of the highlights of the creator range. The designers, free from licensing and playability restrictions are able to add features that give the models more character. You can take off the roof and play inside which is a nice feature for young fans but like most of these sets there is very little inside.Lego have obviously made the decision to let the builders make their own furniture, which is not a bad idea. The set contains some nice pieces including the blue roof tiles which are a rarity in modern Lego sets but give all custom houses that distinctive touch. The other two houses are also fun to build and have their own distinctive design features.Overall this is a highly appealing set and with the addition of any minifigure would provide hours of building and playability for any fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lego's 2nd Creator House for 2011, July 4, 2011

I know, all Lego sets are worth five stars. I love Lego too, but please hear me out.

This is Lego's second house from the Creator line for 2011, the first being the Log Cabin (5766) and the third being the Lighthouse (5770). I like just about all the Creator sets because they avoid specialized pieces, often use ingenious building techniques, have multiple build directions, and usually come with a very useful assortment of bricks. Creator sets are closer to how Lego was when I was a kid.

This is a two story white house with gray trim, a red roof, beige windows and a blue front door. This set is called the Hillside House because the house and yard are raised one brick (as if on a hill). The house has a lot going on: an electronic sound brick for the doorbell/dog bark, a blue car, carport, cool french doors, solar panel, mini-figure, dog, BBQ, etc. There are three builds, all of them feature a lift-off top for access to the lower floor. The first design also... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Private sellers charge TOO MUCH, June 10, 2011

PRIVATE SELLERS CHARGE TOO MUCH. This kit is available on the LEGO site for 69.99. Private sellers mark up prices $20 or more over retail. Be sure to shop around.

This is a small model, but the 3 in 1 makes it fun because you can build three different houses. Model two has a wrap around 2nd floor balcony and is my 6 year olds favorite. The dog and the truck are cleverly designed. The outdoor fireplace and barbeque are a lot of fun as well. Lots of exterior and interior detail.

Shop around, if you can find this kit for a good price, the 3 in 1 gives a lot of build time and playability.

This Lego set is pretty big. At first I thought it was expensive for the price, but it comes with a lot of stuff. It has a car, a barbacue, a fireplace, tons of inside room to place whatever furnishings inside the house, a roof that comes off and opens on 2 sides. I purchased it on Lego Shop at Home because it was cheaper there. I think it was $69.99. There are also a lot of pieces in this set so you pay for that in the price. Overall, this build has a good educational value. You have the option of building 3 different models. I would recommend buying it before it goes out of season and becomes expensive. Legos seem to jump in price after a year of being out.
