Best Lego Sets For Christmas, 2010

Best Lego Sets For Christmas, 2010

Kids love Lego and it is one of the most popular presents to give a child at Christmas, this year is no exception. There have been a heap of great sets out this year so we take the guess work out of deciding which set to give, whether your child is a long-time Lego fan or is new to the toys.Best Lego City Sets Like most years there have been some great Lego City sets released in 2010.Fan favourites include the new Power Functions train sets, the new Airport (3182) and the Fan's Choice for 2010, the Public Transportation set (8404).Not surprisingly all three deal with vehicles which are always popular with both kids and adult Lego fans.Smaller sets that drew a lot of attention within the City theme include the City Delivery Truck (3221), Helicopter and Limousine (3222) and the Pig Farm and Tractor (7684) set.Best Star Wars Lego Sets Always popular with fans, the Star Wars theme had a number of highlights this year. The most notable of which was the latest release of Boba Fett's Slave 1 (8097) and the new AT-AT (8219).It is safe to say however that one of the most popular Star Wars Lego sets for 2010 is yet to be released, with the Ultimate Collector Series Imperial Shuttle (10212) on target for a November release.Lego Castle Sets The Lego Castle theme was renamed "Kingdoms" this year and came with a new look.Highlights with fans included the new King's Castle (7946) and Outpost Attack (7948) in the larger sized sets while smaller hits were Knight's Showdown (7950) and Prison Carriage Rescue (7949).Harry Potter Lego Sets No list of the best Lego releases for the year would be complete without mentioning the upcoming Harry Potter Lego releases, due out in November to coincide with the release of the penultimate Harry Potter movie. There will be some very popular sets in this theme and will be worth checking out if you know anyone who is a fan. With news of new 2011 sets being slowly released we can be assured that Lego is here to stay and will bring smiles to many faces come Christmas morning.

Lego Lava Dragon Review

Lego Lava Dragon Review

Have you always been fascinated by dungeons and dragons? I am not talking about the role playing adventure games but talking about the physical dungeons and living dragons.Of course dragons are not real but they have always held a special place in my heart. If you love dragons maybe you would want to read my Lego lava dragon review. This is actually a board game from Lego.Though the game does not have much to do with dragons, I still think it is a pretty fun game! If you have not watched how to train your dragon, I would really recommend this movie. Not only is it about dragons (the writer has done a great job to creatively create all kinds of different dragons) but it is really a meaningful tale of friendship and kinship.Dragons are always portrayed as the bad guys but who would have thought there would be good dragons too? Then of course there is the show dragonheart which was also a wonderful movie as well.I guess I have digressed so much that I have cleanly forgotten about the Lego lava dragon game.Basically each player would be given a hero and this hero is supposed to scale up the volcano and avoid all the lava and obstacles in the process. The hero which reaches the top first would be able to summon the lava dragon. The roll of the die would determine the number of blocks you hero can scale up the mountain and can also allow you to place obstacles in front of your opponents heroes. And as with all Lego games you can change the rules and instructions of the game as you wish! Take for example another Lego game such as Lego minotaurus, the Lego minotaurus rules are also flexible and dependent on your own gaming style!

The KidKraft Activity Center is just like the Lego branded one except this one is priced almost $100 less and has stools rather than chairs.
It was easy to build and is convinient form my 6 year old boy and 9 year old daugthter to use.

Legos fit in the center and the table tops on each station can be flipped for a flat surface. We only use Lego's so I cannot comment on Duplo.

The delivery in Texas was quick and my children play on it every day.

I read the reviews on this table. I was a little worried because there were only 4 reviews when I purchased it, and no one had tried it with Lego Duplo. My son is 4 and still plays with Duplo, all though his collection of regular Legos is growing. I was getting tired of cleaning Legos off the floor!

The table is very sturdy. It DID take longer than 30 minutes to out together, but I had a four-year-old "helping." It looks great, has plenty of room for playmates, and works perfect with regular or Duplo legos. We tried both.

Over all, for the price, I am very, VERY happy with this table!

I looked long and hard for a lego table. This item is perfect. It is compatible with the small legos (I'm not sure about duplo). It is very sturdy. It took my husband about an hour or so to put together. The lego boards on each color top flip over to a flat surface. I am very pleased with this item.

Amazon.com Hands-On Review

The LEGO Toy Story 3 Train Chase set lets you join Buzz, Woodie, Rex, and the entire gang on a Wild West train adventure. This 23-inch train features a delightful, cartoony aesthetic, making it an ideal first train for younger kids. It also comes with minifigures of Buzz, Woody, Bullseye, and other popular characters, allowing kids to reenact scenes from the movie. With 584 pieces and a unique modular design, this set will provide a healthy challenge for younger builders.

Modular LEGO Design

Buildable, Interactive Toy Train
Measuring 23 inches in length, the train features four different cars: a steam engine, a box car, a passenger car, and - of course - a caboose. Each car has been detailed with an impressive level of detail - from the red cowcatcher grille in front to the translucent windows on the caboose. Kids will enjoy playing with each individual car, linking them together, and rearranging their order. While the train doesn't feature a motor, it can easily be rolled around by hand.

There are plenty of additional features to keep the toy interesting. Our 11-year-old tester especially appreciated some of the more interactive parts of the set - like the opening side doors, trap door ceilings, and rolling wheels. These features make the train not only a fun building project, but also a fun toy in its own right.

Reenact Scenes from Toy Story 3
Featuring Toy Story-themed minifigures, this set gives kids everything they need to reenact the exhilarating train chase scene from Toy Story 3. The set includes minifigures of Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, Bullseye the Horse, Rex, and Dr. Porkchop. Builders can take up the role of Woody, as he races to rescue the captive Rex from the Evil Dr. Porkchop. Kids can either choose to follow the movie's narrative, or invent their very own story. An Easy, Engaging Build
With 584 pieces, the Desert Destruction set will provide an intermediate challenge for younger kids. It took our tester (an accomplished LEGO builder) about two and a half hours to fully assemble. In addition to the more traditional blocks and sticks, the set includes various embellishing pieces that help make the train look more realistic.

The set comes with a colorful, step-by-step instruction manual to assist you in building. Or, if you're not interested in building the pre-designed train, you can use the many hinges, blocks, and embellishing pieces to build your own, unique creation.

What's in the Box
584 lego pieces and an instruction booklet.

LEGO Train Chase

Join Woody, Buzz, and the entire gang on a rollicking adventure across the Wild West.

  • Includes Train, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, Bullseye, Rex and Hamm as “Evil Doctor Porkchops” figures
  • New Toy Story 3 scene
  • Rolling Western train features locomotive and three cars with opening doors, roofs and rooftop traps.
  • Fully compatible with LEGO train tracks and LEGO power functions; noted in building instructions

**Update December 2011: Lego has delisted this set. There are, as of writing, still supplies of this train available. At some point, prices for the set will start to appreciate quickly.**

This is a five star train for kids in the 5 to 8 year old range. Older kids may be more interested in the City line trains (7938 and 7939) or the Harry Potter Hogwart's Express train (4841). The City trains, incidentally, are the only ones that come as complete sets with track, motors and remote control devices.

Wow, this is a good looking train! I believe that the photos and box art for the set don't do justice to how it looks when it is built, and how much fun it is to play with. This is an Old West 4-4-0 steam engine, box car, passenger car, and caboose. I would describe the design as more cartoon-like than realistic, with the engine having exaggerated proportions and the cars a tad short. The set includes no track or motor. It is designed as a push train. The engine uses... Read more

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
Yes, the box says ages 8 through 14, but honestly... What 14-year-old is going to be thrilled with a Lego train featuring the Toy Story gang? The age-range/difficulty level seems out of sync with the nature of the toy. Older children will probably not be entranced by the idea of playing with Woody and Rex, and younger children will need assistance with assembly of the components.

On to the product itself:

The contents were very nicely packaged, in what turned out to be separate portions of the instructions tied to the numbered bags of parts. The instructions were very clear, with little text, but with very good three dimensional graphics that provided all the information needed to assemble the various train cars without the annoying text found in so many instructions. The only portion of the instructions that wasn't spot-on was the assembly of the Toy Story characters. It turns out that not all the parts for the characters are in the character bag - a few... Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
While some might disagree, I firmly believe that the creators of Lego developed the perfect toy when they invented those interlocking little plastic blocks so many years ago. From the first minute I played with a set of Lego, I was in heaven. Whatever I might imagine, I could build it, as long as I had enough pieces to snap together to bring my imagination to life. Over time my parents bought more and more pieces for myself and my siblings to play with, and soon we were introduced to "sets" of Lego that were designed to offer the opportunity to build pre-planned designs ( LEGO City Fire Station (7208), LEGO City Police Headquarters). Those sets offered the opportunity to follow instructions to build items in a manner similar to the way someone might assemble a model of a car, boat, or other item, and yet the pieces that came in those...
