Lego Star Wars Toys - A Successful Partnership

Lego Star Wars Toys - A Successful Partnership

The familiar Lego block has been a very popular toy for several decades.Very versatile and fun to build with they have many adult devotees as well as kids. The company was very far sighted in obtaining the license from Lucas films to manufacture Star Wars toys.Popular movies come and go but Star Wars remains ever popular with a worldwide cult like following. This series of toys was introduced in 1999 and has had many additions since then. The Lego line of Star Wars toys started with figures and vehicles from the trilogy(Episodes IV-VI).At a later date new sets and releases were introduced to cover the earlier prequel trilogy (Episodes I-III).All the main themes of the series of movies have been recreated. The characters are typical Lego style figures with the usual square heads and bodies.Slight differences in color and the headwear and clothing distinguish them from one another.Star Wars characters have a wide variation in the head type, size and shape.Lego decided to make special molds for the heads which are true to these characters.Unique and completely original molds were created for these figures.Darth Vader is a good example of this special treatment.Light sabers were also added to the line since it would not be complete without these very well known weapons. All of the well known star ships and assorted other vehicles are included in the series. The Millennium Falcon is likely the most popular vehicle. The X-wing fighter, the Imperial AT-ST, speeders and TIE fighters were all included.A series of location sets from several of the movies is also included to accompany the vehicles that were in the movie.Lego has produced a huge variety of Star Wars paraphernalia.Their Technic line includes several of these items. The Technics line has more complex parts which are capable of movement and are more realistic than the well known Lego figures. The Ultimate collector series has large and very complex designs in Star Wars material. The Millenium Falcon in this series for instance has over 5000 pieces and is the biggest Lego set ever produced. This series of video games is definitely the best selling Lego product ever made. These video games were hugely popular and were a hit with both Star Wars devotees and video gamers. The first of the video games was based on the prequel trilogy, and the second game was based on the original trilogy. The two games were later packaged and sold together as one complete Star wars edition.Lego Star Wars toys, figures and other items are extremely popular with both adults and children. This is one of the really great success stories in toy production history.

I Wish I Had A Crystal Ball

I Wish I Had A Crystal Ball

Many years ago, in the 1980s, my 2 sons had a craze on Star Wars toys, both vehicles and models.I vaguely recall scurrying around the shops in November and early December trying to find the ones they had requested for Christmas.I seem to remember being lucky at Tesco, where I got a few of the things.I begrudged paying nearly £15 for a Millenium Falcon and a similar price for a Winged Fighter as I thought it was a lot of money at the time for what these things were - plastic playthings with bits, that boisterous boys would soon break off. After a couple of years, they had moved on to another fad, and so the Star Wars toys were given to the charity shop.I wish I had had a crystal ball then, and could see into the future, as these toys have made a comeback over recent years, and are now fetching very high prices if they are the originals.Taking a look on eBay today, you will see a Wing Fighter for $200 and Millenium Falcons for $100 or more.I do wish I had thought to keep the toys my sons had in the loft to get out for future generations, or to sell now, as I would have made a good profit on some of them. They also had a complete set of the figures at one time, and these now are fetching over $2000 for a good set.I see that there is now a Millenium Falcon made from Lego and selling at $400.Some parents sure do have lots of money to spend on their kids.I wonder what the collectibles of the future will be and what we should keep stored away safely for the future generations.

5.0 out of 5 stars the greatest x-wing ever made, August 23, 2002

This review is from: Luke Skywalker's X-Wing Fighter w/ R2-D2 Figure - Star Wars (Toy)
This is the greatest x-wing ever made. Why might you ask? First because it is made to a much better scale than the old x-wing mold this is a much more true scale to the action figures. Two the amount of detail is fantastic . Three You get a very cool exclusive R2D2 with it as well. This x-wing differers from the Power of the force version in packing design and paint job. Not to mention price the older version can cost [more money] sealed so this is dirt cheap. Best known from Empire strikes back this serves a a great fighter toy and doubles as a very good playset to recreate parts of the movie. I gave this item 5 stars so now go out and get yours i have mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Impressive Ship!, October 23, 2002

This is one of the best ships produced for the Star Wars line. The sculpt is much closer to the real thing than the first one. Some points to keep in mind are: The paint job (in my opinion) is a little extreme if you compare it to the movie ship. Also the wings and weapons are made from a more flexible plastic, so some caution should be exercised. On the good points, the ship is more to scale to the figures and the seat tilts forward to reveal a space for the accessories included. There's a compartment behind the cockpit for the R2-D2 that is included. As a matter a fact the compartment will hold every astromech that has been created (for now), even the first Artoo made will fit in with slight effort (I should know, I've tried). For the die-hard collectors, the RD-D2 is made from the same mold as the R2-B1 from the Episode 1 line and the ship is the same as the Electronic Power F/X with mold changes. There are three landing struts that are manually operated and the wings open... Read more

I grabbed this one as soon as i saw it. Hasbro has done a great job on this X Wing. Very detailed, lots of accessories, great paint job. My only complaint is the lack of electronic features, but even if you have the old X Wing, you should grab this one, it's scaled much more accurately, and slimy little R2 is just sooooooo cute :) Good Job Hasbro!!

    Amazon.com Review

Based on the popular Indiana Jones movie, LEGO's Temple of Doom set is sure to bring out an adventurous streak in young builders. Featuring six of the movie's main characters, as well as rail cars and hidden traps, this 652-piece set lets you recreate the wild, mine car chase in the underground Temple. Designed for ages 8 to 14, but with the potential to keep adults entertained, this action-packed LEGO set will bring out the adventurer in everyone who plays with it.

The Good: Mine-themed adventure set with plenty of cool moving parts.

The Challenging: With lots of leggy constructions, this set is a bit fragile and unstable.

In a Nutshell: Action-packed building set jump starts imaginative play.

Take a Wild, Imaginative Ride With Indy and His Gang
Based on the film -- in which Indiana Jones seeks to recapture magical stones from an evil shaman and return them to the village that depends on them -- the Temple of Doom provides an action-packed, narrative setting to inspire imaginative play.

In addition to the 37-inch mine track, this set includes a detailed recreation of the movie's skull altar, two mine carts, booby traps, and plenty of creepy-crawlies. The Temple of Doom comes complete with six mini figures: Indy, his lady-love Willie, his kid sidekick Short Round, the evil shaman Mola Ram, and two menacing temple guards.

In addition, there are plenty of features to keep the set interesting. Just when it seems like Indy is doomed, you can set a trap to derail the temple guards from their evil mission -- position a road block, dump rubble, or let loose a snake.

    Building the Temple of Doom
With 652 pieces and a colorful instruction booklet, the Temple of Doom took our two adult testers approximately two hours to construct. The process was challenging, but not too difficult with colorful step-by-step illustrations showing the way.

Overall, this set scores an excellent rating for its clever design elements. Encountering snares on their journey down the extra-long track, the runaway mine cars are a huge hit. Other favorite features are the temple's trap door, the boulder-rigged mine shaft, the chopping sword, and the glow-in-the-dark temple decorations.

One of the best features of this set may be the collection of mini figures, each of which has unique features. Indy comes complete with a removable knapsack and hat, Mola Ram has his signature horned headgear, Willie has long, wavy blond hair, and Short Round is characteristically petite. With such a detailed cast of characters, it's enjoyable to stage battles between Indy's crew and the elusive enemies -- with clubs, swords, guns, and more.

Our testers enjoyed the way the narrative of this set allowed them to reenact Indy's quest to capture the magical stones and end Mola Ram's evil influence. They also appreciated that the storyline is simple enough to make the set entertaining whether or not your child has seen the classic 1984 Indiana Jones movie.

3.0 out of 5 stars falls apart easily, September 17, 2010

My son loves Indiana Jones and he loves legos...need I say more? The only, but big, disappointment is how easily the track falls apart. If you barely bump it, it falls over. There is no reinforcement in critical areas in the lego design, which is a bummer. It gets frustrating for him to constantly have to reset the pieces, only to have them break apart again! Lego needs to tweak the blueprints for this one! 3 stars for fun is because of this design flaw; otherwise it would have earned 5 stars for the fun it COULD provide if it actually stayed together! (and no, you cannot reinforce it with your own extra legos because of the way it is put together...there is not room to do it)

    = Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: LEGO Indiana Jones The Temple of Doom (7199) (Toy)
This is the best lego set I have ever put together. The trapdoors work great and the mine carts run very well on the track. You have to put the minifigures in just the right spot in the carts though, but once you get them in the right spot you can race into action! There is definitely danger, action and thrills in the Temple of Doom! This set is very, very fun to play

P.S. If the trapdoors don't open the fist time, open and close them about 25 times then put a figure on it and pull the lever. The adventure begins!
