Great RC Airplanes For Beginners
So you're ready to start soaring through the air with an RC airplane but are you having trouble deciding which one model's right for you? Here are few things to consider to get you on your way to becoming the aeronautical acrobat..So what makes a good beginner airplane? A Good beginner airplane should be slow, stable, and simple. For those who want to get flying right away and not bother with building your own RC airplane, look for an RTF or "Ready To Fly" planes as they require no construction and usually little to no assembly. For example, the very popular HobbyZone Super Cub LP only requires that you attach the wings to the airplane, install the batteries, then charge the motor battery. You're ready to fly the friendly skies. There are two types of power sources you can choose with the RC airplanes. electric powered (EP) and glow plug (gas).I recommend that you get an electric powered for those who want to enjoy their RC's in a more casual setting as the use of glow plug airplanes are restricted to club spaces or on private properties.EP airplanes are usually cheaper and quieter as well.Durability of the airplane should obviously be taken into consideration.Fortunately most RC airplanes directed at beginners are made from foams rather than the more serious and less durable balsa wood.Realize also that no matter how successful of an RC pilot you are, sooner or later, going to have to replace a worn or damaged part of your plane that is beyond repair. So while you might initially think it great to have stumbled upon a bargain airplane at your local swap meet, you want to make sure you will be able to replace the broken parts before setting your mind on an otherwise very cool out of production/rare RC airplane as your first flight vehicle.Brands such as HobbyZone, ParkZone, and E-Flite offer great RC airplanes for beginners and their supplies of replacement parts are usually readily available. You will often find the fellow RC enthusiasts mention about channels.Channels are basically controllable functions of your RC.As a beginner you should try to look for something with three or four channels.Of course, there are products out their that offer two channels and they are usually easier to master, however, the simplicity of the controls usually do limit the flying capabilities and hence hinder you from truly experiencing what flying an RC airplane is really about. As with anything, you should always do fair amount of research in deciding on your first RC airplane, if you need an outright recommendation, I'd have to say that Super Cub LP and Champ from HobbyZone as well as Radian by ParkZone make for an excellent beginner craft.Try to find out more, if possible, even try them out and decide a model that really fits your preference and skill level.Happy flying!
