The set proved very popular, so after considering the feedback Lego received, they decided to redesign parts of it in order to make it a bit more durable for play. So 10231, released in the summer of 2011, is largely a strengthened 10213. The main changes are to the main fuel tank, landing gear, Canadarm, and cargo doors. Most of the changes are small, but the change to the main fuel tank is large, adding a long gray assembly between the SRBs and the main fuel tank. This makes the vehicle stronger but visually less realistic (if that is important to you).If your child is a space enthusiast, this set really is a must. It is also a good deal considering the quantity and variety of parts included. Between this set and the other big space set this year, #3368 Space Center, both are very good, but the shuttle set is more intricate, a bit harder to build, and more historically significant. It is such fun and takes time to build but its still enjoyable even for an adult.
