It's official! Denmark has been voted the 'happiest place on earth'.In a poll in 2006, Denmark came top, whereas Britain only ranked 41st.The other Scandinavian countries of Norway and Finland scored highly too.Perhaps that's why people flock to these countries on cheap holidays? So what makes a country happy? Experts believe good health is an important factor, followed by prosperity of the populace and a good education system.Also terrain is important.The land must be suitable for a range of sporting activities as well as beautiful enough for relaxation.The most popular attraction in Denmark is Tivoli Gardens.This park and gardens in Copenhagen at Vesterbrograde has so many activities, it's bound to put a smile on everyone's face.Full of fantastic rides, like 'The Demon' and the world's tallest carousel, it also has a wooden roller coaster, built in 1914 and still in use today.Tivoli Gardens acts as a venue for the performing arts and has a spacious concert hall, which hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964.Another attraction in Denmark is Dyrehavsbakken, the oldest amusement park in the world.Right outside the gates of the park is an area of woodland which is home to thousands of deer - fallow, red and sika deer.The park has rides for everyone from the fast and furious to the more sedate.The park has over 40 restaurants, which host live music during the day.There is also a circus, a music hall and a clown revue for toddlers.You're guaranteed to leave the park with a smile in your face.Denmark is home of Lego and where better to celebrate this, than in Legoland.This theme park is split into various zones, each zone being a different land.With names like 'Pirate Land' and 'Imagination Land', you know what to expect.There are numerous shops here where you can buy Lego and plenty of refreshment places.Thankfully, they are the only things in the park not made of Lego!Finland's top attraction has to be the Santa Clause Village in Rovaniemi.The place to search for cheap holiday deals.The village is full of shops selling Christmas decorations.There is a Christmas exhibition and an opportunity to mail postcards from Santa's Post Office and even to meet Santa himself.You can tour the whole village, go on reindeer sleigh rides and even have a go on snowmobiles.The Linnanmaki Amusement Park, located in Helsinki, in Tivolikuja Street, is a lot of fun.The rides such as 'Huss Booster' shake you around, upside down and twist you from side to side.This park has its own Sea Life Centre and an ice rink and even a museum of things interesting to children.Tampere is the place to board a boat to 'Fun Island' - Viikinsaari Island.A Viking island, it has beaches, nature trails, a children's playground as well as mini-golf and volleyball.This island even has an a-la-carte restaurant on it.Watch out for Vikings though!Norway's top attractions are based on the natural beauty of the country.A place to discover on cheap holidays.Apart from the famous fjords, there are other natural wonders to see.The Voringsfossen Waterfall is breathtaking.It has a fall of 182 metres of which 145 is a direct drop.The Old Town at Fredrikstad is a fortress town with many museums, including a football museum and a humour museum.The area outside the town is rich in mystic stone circles, majestic burial mounds and images chiseled in stone.
