I got this set for Christmas from my husband after loving but not having the time to do Lego in 20 years!! I did one level each day just because I didn't want it to end and I was desperately trying to savior the moment. I took about an hour per level quavering between finding the pieces as I needed them, just like the old days and picking out the pieces all ahead of time based on the instructions (a luxury I didn't have years ago as it didn't tell you how many pieces of which you needed when I was a child, when did that happen?) Before I was even done I started googling the fire brigade and the green grocer to buy, I was that excited. I still have yet to figure out why the green grocer cost so much but hey! I completed construction of the set in about 4 1/2 hours, with the help of my five-month old son. Okay, he was wasn't too much help. As with the other modular sets, there are three floors plus a roof with outstanding effects. The first floor sells clothes and jewelry, while the second floor is four housewares (it's the most bare), while the third floor sells toys. Only the first floor has a "checkout counter." Some of the elements that stood out for me: - intricate tile design outside the building - ice cream stand - escalator to all floors (my mind would've melted if it had actually rotated like an escalator, but alas it does not) - mannequins on window display - billboard on the roof - window washer There was a definite wow factor with my older children on this set, just like with Green Grocer. She has the grand emporium (which is also amazing) and has completed several of the architecture sets. The detail is very impressive, with cool interior spaces. We love how the modular sets look when hooked together!! I had help from my Daddie with finding some of the pieces in the beginning that were hard to find. After building the first house, things started to speed up and go quickly. I loved all the little animals and decorations.I did not need any help after building the 1st floor of the first house. This review is from: LEGO Creator Pet Shop 10218 (Toy) What can I say! Of course this is a stupendous product. My son still builds these, (and shhhh he is thirty and is works a very stressful corporate job). He has many of the city sets and duplicates of several. These fill his need to create , relax and I think re-live a bit of childhood in a sea of work days and responsibilities. They are so well thought out in design and have such amazing tiny details . He loves lego, I love that he does, and I will continue to buy this great product for him. I hope more come out in this particular series. The detailed buildings such as these are by far his favorites. Ah yes..as far as educational..please, it is one of the few toys left that allow you to build as it was designed, and then as we do ...take them apart and re-design with your own ideas.
