Looking for Hot Toys for Christmas? Look No Further

Well, it's November and that's a good time to warm up to the hot toys you will be buying the little ones for Christmas.Have you been in touch with the options this year? If no, this is the article for you.I will propose two toys each for boys and girls.According to Amazon these are hot toys for Christmas especially since they are new releases. So without further ado, here goes. The Lego City Advent Calendar 2824 is the first hot selling release. It contains 271 Lego pieces with a calendar that has 24 days of building fun with mini-figures, vehicles and other great accessories for 24 themed city sets. The set also includes a Christmas tree, fireplace and Santa's train set.And features holiday accessories, furniture and lots of cool vehicles! At just about 30 dollars it's an absolute steal and is getting great reviews. For younger boys (Lego presents choking hazards for kids under 3 years old), there is the Fisher-Price Stand 'n Play Rampway Play Set.Extremely cute, this toy builds imagination and is a fun way to play with Little People Wheelies! It is over two feet tall so the wheelies really zoom down two spiral ramps. There are plenty of lights and sounds as kids drive around. The set also features a built-in carry handle and storage, and a rampway with two Wheelies vehicles! At just about 40 dollars this is a spectacular gift and people are going gaga over it.Melissa & Doug present Abby & Emma Deluxe Magnetic Dress-Up kits for girls.Obviously a haven for spending many happy hours, these adorable play sets feature magnetic dolls with doll stands and hundreds of dress-up options. Not only do these enrich a child's imagination, they are exceptional quality and value because of the stories little girls would create around their cherished possessions. At less than 20 dollars this is a no-brainer to buy.For older girls I recommend Fisher-Price hot toys for Christmas.Especially the Kid-Tough Music Player with Microphone. This comes in pink and that's the coolest part.Of course, our little singers will love it for its real sing-along digital music quality. And you will too, because it's designed to survive drop after drop after drop! Featuring simple controls the set is compatible with the most formats of digital music (.Mp3,.Wma.And DRM-free.Aac files from the iTunes music store) and has built-in speakers, a sing-along microphone, a 1" x 2" B and W LCD screen that allows kids to easily find their favorite songs. It is easy to get music from your home PC to your Kid-Tough Music Player as well.So that's my round up of hot toys for Christmas this year!

LEGO Review 2010 City Set 7208 Fire Station

LEGO Review 2010 City Set 7208 Fire Station

The Lego line of building toys has a tradition of emphasising the emergency services in their City and Town range, with particular focus on Fire and Police.Their latest incarnation of the classic Fire Station is the eleventh incarnation of a firefighter's building since the first set in 1978.The latest few versions have been criticised by hardcore fans for being too simple and this latest set seems to address at least some of those criticisms. At 662 pieces and with the main building measuring 17" (43cm) long and over 9" (22cm) tall it is not a large set but to give Lego credit, the fire stations have never been big in this area. They are intended to be highly playable for young builders and in this respect Lego has delivered another winner. The set comes with four mini figures, the fire station building, a fire chief's car and a fire engine.Accessories include fire axes, extinguishers, computers, walkie talkies, a recycling bin, hoses, shovels, brooms, ladders and many more.Inside the station there are two garages, a staff area including a coffee machine, a sleeping quarters and even a fire pole. The fire station houses both vehicles cleanly, though there is not much room left over when the fire engine squeezes through. The fire engine is pretty cool and instead of opening doors on the side the roof lifts up on a hinge to seat two figures inside. The fire car is small and practical with opening doors at the side and back for storing equipment like the rescue net which is a new feature. So as you can see, the emphasis here is on playability.Instructions are clear and bags are numbered for an easier build and the set comes with stickers which probably won't bother young fans.Overall a great set for a child wanting to grow their established city town or for the young fire fan who you want to introduce to Lego.

    Collecting LEGO Star Wars Bricks

    Collecting LEGO Star Wars Bricks

Once the LEGO brick company and Star Wars movie creator, George Lucas, teamed up to make a range of toys, collectors have gone mad buying, collecting and then building LEGO sets and minifigures.I suppose that a lot of these sets are aimed at the high end builder and collector but no matter what I am sure that anyone, child or adult, would love to have one of these LEGO collectables. The Star Wars sets cover all the movies that have been made and each have a collection of little LEGO Star Wars minifigures with great little details on them. The sets vary a lot with how hard they are to build and how many bricks are included but that doesn't worry the movie fans as they want the minifigures and ships to re-enact their favourite scene from a movie.LEGO first licenced toy deal was these Star Wars collectible sets. The huge interest that Star Wars collectors and movie fans showed ended up being that the company has made more than 200 sets so far and more are coming. There are sets and minifigures based on all the movies - Episode One. The Phantom of the Menace, Episode Two. Attack of the Clones, Episode Three. Revenge of the Sith, Episode Four. A New Hope, Episode Five. The Empire Strikes Back, Episode Six Return of the Jedi, and the newest one The Clone Wars.So there is a set from your favourite episode, mine would be The Empire Strikes Back. The main characters in the movies are available, of course. Luke and Anakin Skywalker, R2-D2, C-3PO, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Han Solo and Darth Vader, all in minifigure size. They have now reached the tenth anniversary and are celebrating it with specially mark sets with re-released set from 10 years ago.LEGO has also made Ultimate Collector series sets - these are not to minifigure scale but are big with high detail and look fantastic. These USC sets come with authenticity cards and a display stand to show them off. They are the largest sets the LEGO makes. The licensing deal that LEGO and George Lucas has is said to expire sometime around 2013, so making the available sets now even more rare and more popular for collectors. There is even a range of Star Wars games, in LEGO form, out for all the main consoles so this will make the LEGO Star Wars sets stay popular for a long time coming.

Creationary - A Lego Game Review

Creationary - A Lego Game Review

Lego has now introduced a new breed of board games which you can create, play and change as much as you like. Each of the games comes with Lego Dice, which you build and is suitable for all age ranges and for both family and friends.Use the Lego Dice to choose one of the fun building categories.Either vehicles, buildings, nature or just things. With three levels of difficulty that lets the whole family join in the fun, you can show off your building skills, while the others guess what you are creating in is what is essentially a Lego based version of Pictionary. This is a great game for all the family to test your and stretch your imagination as well as your guessing skills.Creationary is a game for 3-8 players. The box contains..A unique Lego Dice. With each side representing a category such as Nature, Vehicles, Buildings or things. The additional 2 sides have a "you choose" as well as a "double", which is essentially a you choose category with double points.A set of 96 cards. These are the cards that decide what you build. They are categorized into the above groups and you pick one from the top of the pile to get a model to build. They are divided into easy, medium and hard difficulties. What category of card you take is decided by the roll of the dice.A building Tray. This allows you to arrange the various Lego blocks by colour so you can easier find your building pieces during the game.338 Pieces of Lego. These are used to build the various models through out the game. How to Play..The instruction manual details several different ways in which you can play the game.Essentially, all the different ways come down to each player being assigned a card, usually by rolling the dice and building the model that is pictured on the card. The other players then guess what it is they are trying to build and there are various scoring methods to which you can adhere. The game is specified for ages 7 and up but a capable 5 year old, with the correct experience with Lego would be able to pick up and play this game with no real problem. It can be challenging though, even for a fully grown adult. My Thoughts..I think this is a very innovative product from Lego and adds another level of fun to a games night for the family.Everybody loves Lego, being it young boys who are the traditional audience, to older boys in their 20s.Even girls are starting to enjoy Lego with the release of several boxes of pink Lego. This game is fun for all the family.A game typically lasts 30-60 minutes and there will be guaranteed laughs throughout.Another great idea was to include several sets of rules for the games, allowing families to choose the rules best suited to their family composition. My family made up their own rules, loosely based on the one Lego Suggested.Overall and excellent product, at a competitive price, that will bring enjoyment to any family.

    Confront the Separatist Crisis
Drawing from the wealth of Star Wars lore, the Clone Wars are part of a back-story of intragalactic unrest that set the stage for the original trilogy. They are portrayed in a new animated movie, TV series, and video game, which help fill in gaps that appear between the other movies. With this set, you can be part of the action. Take up the battle against the Separatists using the Republic Attack Gunship, a heavily armed and armored Clone Wars troop carrier that's ready to invade even the most hostile terrain.

Included Lego figures represent the well-known characters Obi-Wan Kenobi, Plo Koon, Asajj Ventress, and Commander Cody. Of course, there's Clone Trooper mini-figures as well. There's a cool speeder bike that deploys from the back, and multiple decals to create different gunships for your army. Arm your favorite figure with a lightsaber in Jedi blue-green or Sith red, and let the intragalactic battles begin. There's even a healing chamber that helps your characters recharge after a tough battle.

    Preparing Your Gunship for Battle
With 1,034 pieces in 18 bags and two instruction booklets, the Republic Attack Gunship took our eight-year-old tester just under eight hours to build. He broke the construction up into three shorter sessions to make it more enjoyable and had only one slight difficulty. While Lego instructions are known for being colorful and accurate, there were a handful of pieces in our booklet that appeared clear when they were in fact yellow. This didn't do anything to diminish our appreciation for this model. Our tester struggled to find anything negative to say, and he gave this ship a fun factor score of one million, based on a scale of one to 10!

Cockpits in unexpected locations on the wings, unique sliding doors, the zoomer buggy, and an emergency capsule for sick and injured characters ranked high on the list of cool features. That's not all though. There's also a front side compartment that opens so you can remove the command station, eight positionable flick-fire missiles on top, two rotating missiles in front, and a top compartment which opens to provide access to the spy droids.

When asked if there was a downside to this gunship, our tester could only reply, "It's the best ever! I just like the whole set." Soon after completing construction, he had a big battle with all the ships in his collection and commented on how this set includes updated pieces that he's never seen before.

Even though there's plenty of features on just the Republic Attack Gunship to hold a child's interest for a long time, we can imagine how much fun the set would be with a whole group of friends and siblings plus all their Star Wars ships. We also appreciate the way that Lego systems never limit imaginative play. All the cool hardware that makes up the Republic Attack Gunship can be used to build any structure or vehicle your child dreams up.

    What's in the Box
1,034 Lego pieces and two instruction booklets.

    • Builders can take the battle to the Separatists with this heavily equipped troop transporter

LEGO Review 2010 Modular Set 10197 - Fire Brigade

LEGO Review 2010 Modular Set 10197 - Fire Brigade

The Lego Modular series has been a great hit for the company.Taking the concept of the highly detailed Creator models, beefing them up in piece count and size, adding minifigs and allowing them to be joined together has attracted many older Lego collectors to the line. The Fire Brigade is the last release for 2009 and adds to the three models already released; Market Street, Cafe Corner and Green Grocer.Like other sets in this series the model is made to fit along a main street diorama, so the building comes complete with a segment of shiny sidewalk out the front. Its a beautiful looking building, no surprises there, and it is nice to see a Lego station that isn't all windows or open spaces as the regular line tends to be.This is the first set of this kind to also feature a vehicle, in this case a fire engine modelled after a 1930's fire truck.Like all the modular buildings the set is designed so that the roof and each successive floor is detachable so you can access each level of the station to play and customise.Like the Green Grocer before it, this set has the beginning of playability inside with a ping pong table for bored firemen to bide their time and a fully stocked fridge in the kitchen.Other details include fire-fighting tools, racks for the firemen's helmets, a fire-pole, couch, bookshelf and a roof with a water tower and bell. The set measures 14" (35 cm) high and 10" (25 cm) wide and with over 2200 pieces it is recommended for building by ages 16+.As with most sets in Lego's range, experienced younger builders could build this with a little patience and consideration. If you have the other modular sets its a great addition but would happily serve as the first one on your new Main Street.

The Star Wars Movies Will Come to Life in Your Living Room With the Star Wars Lego Sets!

When I was a kid Lego toys were nothing but some building block toys that were a little better than similar toys like the Lincoln logs, but nowhere near as cool as the video game consoles that were starting to become available like the Atari 2600! However, this has now changed and Lego, are the most popular and famous toys all over the world! In the late nineties Lego saw their profits plummet so they decided that they needed to do something to get the public's attention again They thought that the best way to achieve that would be to team up with one of the most popular and beloved franchises in cinematic history. Star Wars! This is how the Star Wars Lego Sets were born!Star Wars is by far the most successful and popular movie franchise of all time so Lego's decision to make toys based on it was really smart and it really paid off! Star Wars Lego Sets are now much more than just toys or collections of Lego bricks, they have become valuable collector's items!Practically every major event, character and spaceship from the movies has been recreated in Lego form in the Star Wars Lego sets! One of the most popular sets for example is the extremely movie accurate Millennium Falcon Lego! Then there's the Imperial Cruiser set, the gigantic Death Star Set and of course a model based one the most iconic star-fighter ever created, the legendary X-Wing fighter! The attention to detail and craftsmanship on the Star Wars Lego sets is awesome and like all Lego toys, building them is extremely fun! They'd also be a great father and son project!

Child's Play - Simple and Fun Activities for Kids

    Child

With four children under the age of six, I am always looking for opportunities to entertain the kids.Sure there are plenty of toys like Lego, trains and dolls, which are all great fun and of course have a place. But what I find lasts the longest and promotes cooperative play are those basic play opportunities, such as rolling down hills, finding snails or playing with boxes. Many of these activities are easy to organise or already naturally out there, just waiting to be experienced.Following are a few of my children's favourites -.Ponding; After considering buying the net, I ended up making three ponding nets out of left over tulle and wire coat hangers.Ponding can be done anywhere where there is a catchment of water. What you find can vary depending on the water source.A healthy dam was our favourite so far, with lots of yabbies, stick insects and tadpoles.Venture to your local creek, lake or pond and be amazed at what you will find.We even saw a water rat on our latest visit to a local creek!Rolling down hills; This requires no preparation and is so much fun.The bigger the hill the better! Younger, less adventurous children can just start a little lower down.Wear comfortable clothes, vary your hills and have a ball.Children love it when adults join in, so mum and dad get involved.Note. Do a quick dog poop check first!Watching clouds; A great way of relaxing with the kids.Find a comfortable spot, like the grass, a trampoline, the beach-lay back and simply watch the clouds.Spot tigers, whales, trains and other shapes.Just use your imagination!Finding snails; Encourage children to be 'snail snoopers'.Where would snails hide? On fences, under rocks, just take a look.We always play this game on the way back from school.Respect snails and pop them safely back into their environment.Insect spotting; This one is great to do your own backyard or further afield.Look for different types of insects.Talk about where they could be, what may be safe and what's not.Look under rocks, in bushes, and on fences. When you start looking be amazed at what you can find. You could also draw/ paint pictures of the insects. We also like to find out about them with a book or using the computer.Stone play; A bit like sand, stones are great for play. They make a great sound when they hit tin or wood.Provide the children with a few items to use with the stones, a bit of plastic, some metal or wood.I normally use spoons, trucks, containers, cooking trays etc.The children immersed themselves in the play and so far, I never had children throwing them at each other! Give it a try.Water Play; An old favourite.Use tank water if possible.Fill a large bucket or container.Don't make it too small, otherwise it could be tipped straight over! Provide the kids with a few different sized/shaped containers and watch them have hours of fun.Mine usually head to the sand pit to gather a few other supplies and some sort of cooking normally eventuates.Note. Adult supervision is always necessary when children play with water.Gardening; Pots or a small vegetable plot is all that is required.Let children decide what they would like to plant and this can even encourage them to eat their vegetables.Involve them in the entire process, from planting to watering and harvesting.Make a cheap watering can out of a bottle (pancake containers are ideal) with holes through the top - they are the perfect size and each child can have one.It is so rewarding to watch plants grow, especially if they are edible.Currently, my daughter is patiently waiting for her snow peas to grow!Boxes; Let their imagination run wild.A box can be a bus, a boat or train.Make one big enough to sit in, or small enough to push.Make a cubby house or even a city. These can be creatively decorated with paint, markers or pasting. With all of these activities, make sure children are suitably dressed- normally comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

    Technological Toys and Children

Many people will be able to remember when toys consisted of blocks, train sets, Lego, Barbie dolls and games like snakes and ladders.Today however, the word "toy" has been redefined.Today's toys are completely different than they used to be ten or twenty years ago. There are still some of the same toys hanging around, but kids these days are usually looking for more of the newer toys that have been developed in the last couple of years.Toy makers and manufacturers have changed their way of thinking when it comes to what kinds of toys to design.Kids these days have much higher expectations of what they want out of their toys, and with the newer, technological toys on the market today, and newer, better things coming out all the time, parents have a lot more work to do!Technological toys entered the market place a few years ago, and the word "toy" has never been the same since.Technological toys range from computer games, and X-box to educational toys like leap frog and battery operated Lego robot toys. There are a ton of different technological toys out there, and parent have the hard task of trying to figure out which ones are harmful to their child's psyche and which ones will actually be healthy for their child to play with. There aren't too many computer and Nintendo / Xbox games out there that are beneficial to your child. However, because some parents have voiced their concerns over some of these mind numbing games in the last couple of years, the toy developers have now come out with a few educational games that your child will enjoy playing. Some of these games have the education part more cleverly disguised, and your child will not even know that he or she is learning new skills while playing them!Educational toys for younger children have become more technological as well.Gone are the days of educational toys like the abacus and alphabetical blocks; nowadays, parents of younger kids - even toddlers, are able to buy computer games and video games that their children can play with and enjoy while learning new concepts and skills. There are even exercising plug and play games for toddlers.Parents can plug a toy trike into their television and the toddler can pedal and race on the TV all the while learning about things like shapes, colors, numbers and the alphabet. There are certainly a lot more options out there these days for parents than there were five or ten years ago.Another educational technological toy that has set the standard for other companies is Leapfrog. This toy maker has been around for years, and they are constantly coming up with new and better ideas for educational toys. They seem to know what kids like, and how they best learn. One of the best things about this toy company is that they make educational toys for a dew different age groups.Parents will like this, because it makes it a lot cheaper when families have more than one child.

Opening a Daycare - The Equipment and Materials Needed

Opening a Daycare - The Equipment and Materials Needed

Children need lots of love and attention and every daycare facility's goal is to provide this in lieu of the parents. This is why individuals who want to open a daycare must be well prepared for the service, providing their charges with everything necessary to keep them comfortable and safe while keeping them mentally stimulated. This can be done through an excellent staff, a good management plan and of course, the right materials close at hand.Art Materials.Crayons, papers, glue, child-safe scissors, clay and various other art materials should be kept ready at all times.Art time is something that daycare facilities should encourage to develop the creativity of the children.Note however that some art materials might prove dangerous when ingested which is why children should be thoroughly supervised during this time.Age Appropriate Toys. The toys should be free of small parts that could prove as choking hazards. Some of the most common toys found in daycare facilities include Lego, puzzles, fire trucks and dolls.Ideally though, the daycare should be able to provide toys that are educational or would help hone the child's skills and talents.A good example of these would be musical toys, perhaps encouraging children to sing or conduct concerts during playtime.Play Area - Swings and Crawling Spaces.Art and toys aren't enough considering the amount of energy children have. Before trying to open a daycare, owners should first make sure that there is ample space for a make shift playground.Ideally, this should contain slides, swings, tunnels, climbing area and other facilities that would keep an energetic child satisfied.Note that the play area should be free o sharp edges or any loose parts.Beds and Cots.Provide the children with a comfortable sleeping area with proper padding to keep them protected.Note that the bed area should be separate from the rest of the room and kept clean at all times.Clean Bathroom and Towels. There's no question that children are prone to getting dirty no matter what they do.Daycare facilities should be prepared for eventualities like this by providing children with a clean bathroom, towels and even extra clothes for the children.Snack Time Equipment.Provide the children with dishware made in plastic to ensure that there wouldn't be any breakage during snack time.High chairs are necessary for daycare facilities taking care of younger children.Diapering Area. This is crucial for daycare facilities catering to infants. The diapering area must be far away from the other areas of the room while being close to the faucet. This would make it easier for the staff to clean and sanitize the area to ensure that the children remain safe at all times.Of course, those aren't the only things needed before trying to open a daycare center.Note that some things must NOT be present in the room such as hazardous materials, wide open doors or easily accessible wires and electric sockets. For a more thorough idea of how to start a daycare, refer to the local business administration for their rules and regulations.
